Kelvinator – Error Code LP

Is your Kelvinator air conditioner showing up with Error Code LP on the screen?

What is a Kelvinator Error Code LP?

The Error Code LP on your Kelvinator air conditioner indicates that there’s a mismatch between the indoor and outdoor units, which means they’re not properly synchronized or compatible. This problem is signalled by a yellow LED light on the outdoor unit, which flashes 16 times to alert you to the issue.

Recommended solution/fix steps

To fix this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Check Compatibility: Ensure both the indoor and outdoor units are designed to work together. Refer to your user manual or contact the manufacturer if unsure.
  2. Inspect Connections: Look over the electrical and refrigerant connections between the indoor and outdoor units. Make sure all connections are secure and properly installed.
  3. Reset the System: Turn off the air conditioner at the circuit breaker, wait for a minute, and then turn it back on. This can sometimes resolve communication issues between the units.
  4. Consult a Professional: If the above steps don’t fix the problem, it’s best to call a certified HVAC technician. They can assess whether the units are compatible and either adjust the settings or recommend a suitable replacement.

Troubleshooting to try

  • Check for a dirty air filter
  • Check your thermostat settings
  • Check your air conditioner circuit breakers
  • Check your outdoor unit
  • Check all air vents

How to restart/reset/reboot your Kelvinator air conditioner?

You may find your Kelvinator air conditioning unit needs resetting if it starts to malfunction or isn’t responding to any input via your control panel or remote control. Resetting your air conditioner re-starts the internal computer and can often restore the unit to normal working order. The exact instructions will vary depending on your model of Kelvinator air conditioner.

Typically, this procedure will be:

  1. Turn off the air conditioning unit on your thermostat
  2. Power off your air conditioning unit
  3. Locate the reset button
  4. Press the reset button for 5 seconds
  5. Turn your air conditioning on using the thermostat

Kelvinator Maintenance

During normal air conditioner operation, dust, dirt, moisture from humidity or condensation, and microbial growths can build up on internal components. Left unchecked, these issues can corrode components like the evaporator coil and condenser coil. Over time, those components can become less effective and lead to a loss of efficiency or worse, a shorter air conditioner lifespan.

Regular AC maintenance and tune-ups can minimize many of the issues caused by a build-up of dirt and debris. If they are performed by an HVAC technician, these inspections allow your contractor to check for longer-term issues and in some cases take proactive steps to prevent premature failure or inconvenient breakdowns during the cooling season.

Annual air conditioner preventative maintenance may also be a requirement to keep your warranty valid as well. Many manufacturers state on warranty documentation that installation and maintenance by a licensed HVAC service provider are a part of the warranty conditions.

Cleaning your Kelvinator Air Conditioner

One simple way to potentially save money and prolong the life of an AC system is to make sure the outdoor unit stays clean. During normal operation, a fan in the outdoor unit pulls air through the condenser coil. Airborne dust and dirt particles and debris from nearby foliage can get lodged in the coil fins, restricting airflow and affecting performance.

  • Use a dry cloth to wipe the indoor unit and remote control.
  • A cloth dampened with cold water may be used on the indoor unit if it is extremely dirty.
  • The front panel of the indoor unit can be removed, cleaned with water then wiped with a dry cloth.
  • Do not use scourers or steel wool to clean the unit as they may damage the unit.
  • Do not use a chemically treated cloth or duster to clean the unit.
  • Do not use benzine, thinners, polishing powder or similar solvents for cleaning. These may cause the plastic surface to crack or deform.
  • Never use water over 40ยบC to clean the front panel, it may cause deformation or discolouration.
  • Supply power must be disconnected before cleaning the indoor unit.

Change or clean the air filters

A clogged air filter reduces the cooling efficiency of this unit. Please clean the filter every month or more often if necessary.
  1. Lift the front panel of the indoor unit until it stops with the full support of the bracket
  2. Hold the dust filter handle and lift it up slightly to take it out of the filter holder
  3. Pull the dust filter downwards out of the indoor unit
  4. Clean the dust filter with a vacuum cleaner or water, then dry out of direct sunlight
  5. The healthy air freshening filters (if applicable) like Active carbon filter / BIO filter / Vitamin C filter / Silver ion filter are fixed on the dust filter. Remove the healthy air filters from the support frame of the dust filter. Clean the healthy air filters at least every three (3) months and replace them every 6 months. Clean with a vacuum cleaner if possible.
  6. Install the healthy air filters back in position
  7. Install the upper portion of the dust filters back into the unit, taking care that the left and right edges line up correctly and placing dust filters into position

General Maintenance

If the air conditioner is not going to be used for a long period of time:

  • Operate in fan only mode for 3~4 hours to allow the unit to completely dry out.
  • Switch off the unit and pull the power plug.
  • Remove the batteries from the remote controller.
  • The outdoor unit requires periodic maintenance and dust filter cleaning. Do not attempt to do this yourself. Contact your dealer or service technician.
