Whirlpool – Error – Straining noise/sound

Does your Whirlpool dishwasher have the following issue? Straining noise/sound

Why is this happening?

Straining noise/sound reason: A low buzzing sound is normal for your dishwasher to make. However, loud buzzing noises imply that something is caught in the drain pump’s impeller below the filter.

Recommendation

Inspect the drain filter and pump – Inspect and clean out the filter and drain pump opening under the filter. Some of the debris in the drain pump or filter may be sharp (glass, bone, plastics, etc). Please use caution to avoid injury. If your filter and drain pump opening are not accessible, but the grinding or buzzing is loud and happens every cycle, contact a dishwasher repairer.

Check the water supply – Make sure it is connected to the dishwasher. Make sure the home’s water supply is turned on.

Make sure the dishwasher cabinet insulation (the fabric on the outside of the dishwasher) is in good condition – It is there to dampen sound and hold in heat.

Other troubleshooting to try

  • Check the power to your house
  • Check your dishwasher circuit breaker
  • If your dishwasher motor has overheated, it will work again when it gets back to a normal operating temperature. Try unplugging your machine, waiting fifteen minutes then trying again
  • Is the dishwasher door fully closed? If the door isn’t pushing on the closed switch, the machine won’t work
  • Is your machine full of suds? You might have used too much detergent and the machine is unable to drain
  • Is the drain hose kinked or clogged?
  • Are the water taps still turned on?
  • Check for a clogged filter
